This is a "Working Actors Only" group and more than a networking group. It is for the actors out there who are doing more work than their agent is giving them, and know it's going to take that kind of determination and strength to actually make a career in this business. This group is NOT for the consultant who wants to start acting, nor is it for the waiter who hasn't done a job in the last 9 months. At this time we are also not accepting College Students, unless they are members of the union a …

This is a meetup group for desi film/movie lovers from any culture or background. Although the primary focus will be on Hindi ("Bollywood") movies, we can change things up once in a while up with movies in other languages (Malyalam, Urdu, Tamil, etc.). We'd like to start with simple Movie outings and maybe some Dinner + Movie nights. These could be at theaters or at someone's place (it would have to be for movies that aren't newly released). However, we'd like to expand into more creative ones s …

Outdoor Movie Nights! When Chicago's warmer summer weather allows it, we set up an outdoor movie night each month to take advantage of the season (generally May - Sept). In October, when it gets a bit too cold for movies, we set up a haunted house and pumpkin patch. The lawn space opens early for people to spread out their picnic blankets, mingle with their friends and neighbors, and grab a bite to eat. Before show time - we grill out and BBQ for a few hours while we wait for dusk. People are e …
Are you an indie girl wandering the cold streets of Chicago? If so, you've come to the right place. We want together a group of music loving, bike riding, artistically inclined, pseudo weird girls to have fun! For me this group was born out of the desire to escape mainstream culture, how many times have I stood around in a group of women and felt like wow I just don't relate to you: no, I don't care if the Cubs won last night, not really interested in what sorority you were in, and NO I didn't …

Or are you a professional American or from some other part of the world who has European heritage, loves to travel to Europe or just wants to meet some new people and learn about their cultures! There are lots of meetups here dedicated to foreign cultures and languages but they all seem to meet in the same places every month with not much diversity or it is aimed at speaking the language. I wanted to start a casual and friendly me …

It all started with Roman Polanski's "Chinatown" (1974) in October 2011. Since then we've really evolved (still evolving) in to a unit of Chicago film lovers who can't stop talking about all the things we love about film. Right now we have two meetups a month, one that's more structured by focusing on talking about one film, like "Chinatown", at Argo Tea, then we also have a "social" meetup where we can go wild at Wilde Bar & Resturaunt, with no structure or limit to our discussion. What we have …
When I first moved to Chicago 3 years ago, there was a group that met at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema once a month. That group moved too far into the art house scene for my taste, so I'm making my own. The plan: One Tuesday a month, descend on the Landmark at 7pm. Break up into groups based on the film, that way you can see whatever you want. Afterwards, reconvene at a bar around the corner to chat. Plus more. Suggested meetups are for people who want to organize an actual meetup, not prom …

Khenpo Rinpoches giving teachings from various PBC Centers, and meet at various locations throughout the city and surrounding suburbs for additional practice, discussion, potlucks, and to view Tibetan and Buddhi …

The purpose of this group to get movie fans together to watch movies. People who enjoy going to the movies, but don't want to go alone, should join this group. Great way to make friends and socialize with others, after the movie, when we go out for lunch or dinner to a local restaurant. Group meets the third Sunday of the month to see a movie. Optional: Group may meet at a local restaurant, near the theater. I like Ruby Tuesday and Bakers Square. You can make other suggestions. There are othe …

We are a non-for-profit meetup group developed to support the little Queer Film Festival in Chicago. Our goal is to foster a community of passionate volunteers to acquire and showcase quality queer films. Mainstream theaters are hard to come by. We seek small, intimate venues such as wine bars, music lounges and art galleries conducive to social/mingling and make high quality independent programs more accessible to our community. Here are some of our ideas of future meet ups: 1. Women's movie ni …

The Book (Was Better) Club is for cinephiles and bookworms alike. Each month, members will select a book for which a film adaptation was (or will be) made. To keep discussions productive, caps will be placed on how many may attend a given meeting, but meet-ups will be held at least twice a month. So if you don't R.S.V.P. in time for one, just join another! Events will range from discussions (over coffee, tea, wine, or my personal favorite: FOOD) to in-home movie viewings and trips to the cinema.
